Meet Roman
How adorable is this little fur ball?!
Roman is my cousin's new puppy and her family is so in love with him. My cousin has three little boys that are energetic and super sweet at the same time which is the perfect combination with a pup. Roman (half yorkie half schnauzer) likes to chase the boys around the house and cuddle up when it's nap time. Although Roman is a boy, his parents were kind enough to let me photograph a couple accessories on him when I was visiting last. It's nice to see what my accessories look like on other breeds without short white hair like Stanlee. The verdict was that Roman looked every bit as adorable :)

Tips To Buying On Etsy
The holiday shopping season is here! Since we all love handmade goodies, I want to give you some pointers in shopping the handmade market this upcoming holiday season.
I have already seen an increase in holiday requests and purchases that are intended for gifts and family Christmas photos. It's a beautiful time of year, but with this time of year can come a lot of work for retailers. Today, I want to share with you some tips to buying handmade online from the perspective of a shop owner. I hope this helps you choose the perfect gifts for your loved ones this year!
Here we go!
Tips to buying handmade items online:
I sell on Etsy, which is a marketplace for thousands of handmade artists. There are other places to shop handmade artists other than Etsy, but because I am the most familiar with this selling platform, this is what I am going to share with you today. I encourage you to seek out all handmade artists, as they are all over the web!
One of the things that is great for buyers on Etsy is that every shop is set up the same way. You do not have to search where to find information with each shop you visit. It will always be in the same place.
Tip #1
Start shopping NOW! Yes, there are still almost two months until Christmas, however, a lot of shops are made to order meaning they create your item once the order is placed. Shipping time is also something that can vary depending on location and it's best to give yourself plenty of time to receive the item.
Tip #2
When you find a shop on Etsy and you want to purchase one of their items, the first thing I recommend to do is to read the listing thoroughly that you want to purchase. Look for information like available sizes, colors, descriptions, etc. After you read the listing, move on to the shop announcement at the top of the store, just below the header image. This is where a lot of shops share more details about their design process, lead times, social networking sites and shipping information.
Tip #3
Check the location of the shop. The great thing about Etsy is that sellers are from around the world. I ship to another country just about every week and those orders do take longer to reach the buyer. International order lead times (through USPS) vary depending on the customs process into each country. With that being said, shipping times are estimated at 2 weeks for international orders, but can take a little more time during the holidays.
Tip #4
If you have a question about placing an order, you can contact that shop owner through Etsy by clicking on the contact button just below the shop owners photo and location.
Tip #5
Etsy is always improving! Recently they added listing variations which means you can add a drop down menu at checkout if the customer is required to enter a size, color or specific information for the order. For example, my personalized letter onesie needs a size onesie and letter choice stated at checkout. Customers are able to use the drop down menu to select the right options and then hit add to cart.
Tip #6
If there is a shop you really love, I recommend following them on their social networking sites. This is a great way to keep in touch, view product sneak peeks, get to know the artist and know when there are coupon codes for their shop. If a shop provides fans with a coupon code, you will enter that at checkout just below the payment. Click on the text Apply shop coupon code and enter the code exactly as the shop owner shared it.

That's it friends! I hope you find these tips helpful in shopping unique handmade gifts for your friends and family this season. Buying from handmade artists is a great way to support small businesses and get to know the work that goes into the item you are purchasing. Please remember that Etsy sellers are business owners, and that like any other retail store, this time of year is a busy one. Make sure to read over the listings, announcements and invoice thoroughly and don't hesitate to ask questions.
I hope all of my Etsy friends have a great season!
Let the shopping begin!

Changes To Little Blue FeatherS
Recently I have been making some changes to Little Blue Feathers. The biggest change that I feel like I need to share first is the slight name change.
Little Blue Feathers
When I started my shop, I loved the name Little Blue Feather. The name comes from the little blue feather that is included in every package before it ships. Cute, right?! I opened my etsy shop and created my FB page. But then I wanted to start a blog and LittleBlueFeather [dot] blogspot [dot] com was taken and so was LittleBlueFeather [dot] com. Then I moved on to LittleBlueFeather [at] gmail [dot] com and that was also taken already. I found myself changing my blog and email to LittleBlueFeathers and hoped that adding the s to the ending wouldn't matter so much and I would just continue on.
In reality, that started to confuse people even more. Some of my friends, family and customers were talking to me about this recently so I decided to make sure everyone knew of the recent changes!
Now, everything is Little Blue Feathers with the added S. The only exception is my Facebook page because I am unable to change my page name, but the link to get to my FB page is Facebook.com/LittleBlueFeathers. Hopefully this will help people better find LBF on the web, and eliminate any confusion.
Links you can find Little Blue Feathers:
Twitter: @LilBlueFeathers - Twitter.com/LilBlueFeathers
Instagram: @LittleBlueFeathers
Facebook: Facebook.com/LittleBlueFeathers
Landing Page with all of the above: LittleBlueFeathers.com
Another change coming to Little Blue Feathers is a schedule change.
Working with a daily schedule is not a strong point for me. I struggle with doing an 8-5 which is one of the reasons I wanted to start my own business. Some mornings I wake up at 6am ready to go, while other days I like to stay up until 2am because I can't seem to put my sewing machine away! It's probably not the best thing, but I am working on consistency. Until then, my husband and I have decided that instead of a daily schedule, a weekly schedule would be better for me. This new weekly schedule consists of specific week days dedicated to etsy orders, packaging and shipping, while other days will be focusing on making new products, photography, updating my etsy and blog content. Lately I seem to feel frustrated that I am not making enough time for all of the new ideas brewing in my mind, so having a "free day" away from filling etsy and store orders I will be able to create more new products. This also means because I will not be working on filling etsy orders every day of the week, I have extended my lead time to 3-7 business days before orders ship.
In addition to the new schedule, I will stop accepting custom orders on Monday October 22. With the holiday shopping season approaching really fast, I will be putting all custom order requests on hold again until the first of the year.
Phew. That was a lot of information.
Thank you for reading and understanding!

Handsome Pups
This Christmas season, I received quite a few photos of dogs celebrating the holidays dressed in Little Blue Feather bow-ties. I can't get over how handsome these pups are and how fun it is to see my ties on so many different breeds.
Take a look at some of these adorable little guys {and some that aren't so little} sporting their handmade Little Blue Feather dog bow-ties!

Same Breed, Different Pups
Earlier in December I started making a few felt flowers for the lady pups. Although I think my bow-ties can be gender neutral depending on the fabric, I decided to add something extra feminine as a second option for the girls.
As mentioned in a previous post, Stanlee is a great little model for my bow-ties, but because these flowers are for lady pups, I thought it would be most appropriate if Miss Miley did the modeling. One problem...she haaates modeling. I think it is more like she hates being told what to do; sit, stay, look here...
In about 10 minutes, this was the best photo I could get of Miley on the left; no eye contact, slicked back ears and glaring her big eyes. Within two minutes, I had 7+ great photos of Stanlee. So it looks like Stanlee will be the official model for all my pup items, even if it is a girly accessory. {Sorry buddy!}
I love collar accessories.

Shop Update
Starting Wednesday, only READY TO SHIP items will be listed in my shop until the end of the week. Since we are so close to Christmas, I am going to take some time to make/buy the rest of our Christmas gifts, do some baking, clean, wrap gifts, spend time with the husband and start packing for my trip to see family.
Thank you all for understanding! If there is something listed in my shop that you want to purchase, you might want to hurry! My shop will be closed on vacation mode starting Saturday the 17th.

Modeling
Stanlee. An adorable and petite boston terrier that was adopted into our family a couple years ago. My husband and I have developed a very strong love for Stanlee, but have always liked teasing him about his looks. Our nephew calls him a fire dog and most strangers ask what breed is he?! Stanlee is very unique in his looks for many reasons: his long crooked tail, mismatched ears, a black spotted body with white hair on top of the spots and his long lean legs.
Stanlee is everything untraditional about a boston terrier.
You have probably noticed an item in my shop that is a best seller, my boston terrier screen printed shirts. This screen print originated from a photograph I took of Miley, our perfectly marked beautiful boston terrier. Miley was our first dog, and I didn't think a boston could be any cuter than her in the beginning. So, I started screen printing her beautiful face and she has no idea she has traveled via t-shirt all over the world.
Why do I say all of this about Miley?! Well, for a year now, I have been given a lovingly hard time about how famous Miley is in my shop, but that Stanlee doesn't get any love and attention through Little Blue Feather. I knew this was true, but I wasn't sure how I could incorporate Stanlee into my designs and shop.
until...
I realized how well Stanlee models. He will sit and stay while I take photos of him all day. He wears props, clothing and accessories so well, all while giving his best regal look for the camera.
So this weekend, Stanlee modeled five new bow-ties for my shop, complete with a bright teal backdrop and some treats after the photo shoot. Since I listed the bow-ties in my Etsy shop tonight, I sold the green dots tie and another one was featured on a website! I like to think that Stanlee is the reason behind the bow-tie love. Either way, that's what I am telling this sweet little boston tonight.
Thank you Stanlee for such wonderful modeling.

New T-shirts
There are a few new tees in my shop today! Last week my new shirt ordered arrived and I must say I am really loving my new women's shirts! In addition to the ivory fitted tees, I also ordered tunics and just placed another order for more of the fitted tees. At first, I just ordered a couple of each size to make sure I liked the fit; well, today I ordered more! ;)
More exciting news, I also sent out some new hand drawn images to be made into screens for screen printing! Stylized pinwheels and feathers shipped today and hopefully will arrive Wednesday; just in time for black Friday shopping!
Today I am going to start working on my new tunics!
Here is where I might need some help from my fellow tunic and leggings lover fans:
When you are looking for tunics to wear with your leggings, what are styles, colors or designs that attract you to the garment? Do you like all over designs, something small around the neckline, or just a single image front center? I would love to hear your opinions in the comments below!
Thanks!
Happy Monday friends ;)

Etsy Shopping Guide
In case you missed my article I did for Lollipops blog, here it is. I hope you find this helpful for shopping on Etsy this Christmas season!
In case you are unfamiliar with Etsy, it is a website that hosts individual stores for handmade businesses, making it easy for you to shop anything and everything handmade in one location! With the holidays approaching quickly, I decided to share some tips with you when it comes to buying on Etsy.
The first thing I recommend when you find a shop you love on Etsy, is to take a look at their shop announcement and shop policies.
Shop announcement:
Includes various information that the shop owner wants their customers to know about them. A business description, lead time or networking sites are a few things that could be included in their announcement.
Shop Policies:
Includes information about that individual shops payment forms, shipping, refunds and exchanges, sales taxes and other important information regarding the sale of their items.
The next thing I would look for in the shop would be the location of the business. One of the great things about Etsy is there are sellers from around the world. Not only can you find great product made locally, but also something handmade with the style and culture from someone half way around the world! With that being said, international shipments can take up to 14 days to reach its destination depending on how far the package is going and the customs process for that country. If you fall in love with an item in Japan, allow an extra week or so for the item to reach you!
Once you have looked over a shop and read their announcement and policies, you can contact (tab found under location) them with any additional questions you might have. For example, if you would like a tracking number included with your order but do not see if they offer delivery confirmation in their policies or announcement, contact the owner to see if this is something they can provide.
The last step (and sometimes the most important for the shop owner) is to complete the feedback for the shop. I recommend doing this once you receive your item in the mail. If you had a pleasant shopping experience, love the product even more in person or just want to thank the shop owner, you can include that in the feedback portion. You can also include an appreciation photo of your new product in the feedback section or through a private Etsy message!
*If the sale did not go smoothly for any reason please contact the shop owner and let them know any problems or issues before leaving negative feedback. Hopefully any issues can be worked out or an explanation given to the customer. Once a feedback (positive or negative) is left for the shop, it can not be changed!!
I hope these steps make an easy and enjoyable Etsy shopping experience for you this holiday season! There is an unbelievable amount of talent and creativity on Etsy and I recommend you looking there first for unique and quality items to give as gifts before shopping large corporate stores. While handmade gifts might take a little bit longer to make, they are exciting to give and you know you are supporting small businesses that put a lot of love into their products!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Michelle

NEW Onesies For Sale!
Today I finally got a chance to upload new onesies to my shop! A few weeks ago I sent four new designs to my adorable little niece for her to model for Little Blue Feather. Baby Abigail is so cute and photogenic, plus her momma is a photographer! Abigail's expression in the first photo makes me smile every time I see it :)

New pillows in the shop today
You might want to take a peak at my shop today for some new and updated listings! I learned to sew pillows a short while ago and have become a little obsessed with making them lately!
Here is what I love about sewing pillows:
- I don't need to keep size inventory
- all I need is my favorite fabrics and my imagination
- It's fun to make an item completely from scratch with endless possibilities
- It is easy to incorporate upcycled fabrics and scraps into your pillow
When I purchase fabric, I usually buy between half a yard - 2 yards. Sometimes this stinks because I run out and am unable to purchase more because of location (My favorite fabric store is in Columbus Ohio, Sew to Speak) or it has been replaced with something different. On the positive side, it keeps them unique from the rest and keeps things fresh :) So if you see one you love, you might want to snatch it up before I run out of the fabric!

I would love to hear your thoughts on the new pillows and what your favorite items are to sew! I am always looking for new projects!

New Onesies In My Shop
The past couple weeks I have worked on a lot of different things. I have mainly filled etsy orders but found some time to make new designs for my shop. I must say, I have focused more on the little girl clothing, but have plans to make new monsters and boy items coming soon! Take a look at these three new onesies for the little ladies.
I also re-listed my personalized pink letter onesie! After looking at four different fabric stores, I decided to go with a softer pink polka dot fabric to replace my discontinued bright pink bird. I was unable to find a similar bright pink fabric and this pink polka dot is a classic and great match with the grey pin dot fabric.
And last but not least, my green letter owl onesie is re-listed in my shop! The owl's body is my favorite thing about this onesie. What is better than an owl made out of an owl printed fabric!? This fabric has also been discontinued, but I do have enough to make lots of mini owls resting on your favorite letter :)
Happy shopping!
