Red, white and blue dog bow-tie

Happy Memorial Day from Little Blue Feather!  I hope you all have a great weekend and remember the men and women who have fought and given their life for our country.  Enjoy your family, friends, weather, food and anything else you might do this holiday weekend!

Decorating for Valentine's Day

{l.o.v.e}

When Justin and I were dating, he decorated my room with over 100 post-it notes telling me all the things he loved most about me while I was at school.  Some of the notes mentioned personality traits, my silliness, physical features and the time we spent together.

I have kept them for all this time and decided today to get them out of their box and read them again five years later, with fresh eyes and as his wife.

As I started taping my favorites on our walls to decorate for Valentine's Day, I asked myself if he would say the same things about me today.  Am I still doing all of these things that he fell in love with?!  I would hope that the answer is yes, and more

While looking through all the post-its, I separated the blank ones and decided to write on them all the things I love about Justin.  I really do believe that it's all the little everyday things in a relationship that can make it so wonderful.  I tell Mr. Sharkey all the time how much I love him, but today I am going to write down exactly what I love about him.  I hope that in another 5 years we can read them again and say that we still love all these things about each other and that these are still things we do today.

Although I think we should show our love for one another everyday, today is a reason to go a little overboard!  I can't wait for Justin to get home and see our love notes to each other hanging above our table.

The Perfect Gift is the book Justin had me read right before he proposed,
along with my first Valentine's Day card to him and my favorite love quote book.

Tell your significant other all the things you love about them!
Pick up some fun post-its at your local craft store or Target and grab a pen or marker. Think about all the little things, daily routines, goofy moments, personality traits, physical features and their style that makes you love them so much.  It's a great way to show someone you love them in an inexpensive way that they can reread for years to come.

Home for the holidays

There's no place like home for the holidays; in fact, it's my favorite part about any holiday.  Spending time with our families is something I always look forward to.

Here is a look into our Christmas spent with family.

My family

Little Eli.  One of 11 kids running around my parents house on Christmas Eve!

Someone got a little monster shirt from LBF ;)

Mr. Sharkey and I late Christmas Eve.

our nephew loves mickey mouse!  This mickey mouse pillow pet might have been
his favorite thing he opened at grandma and papaw Sharkeys.

Our little niece Abbey.  She loves santa ;)

This might have been our Christmas card photo.  And I might have underestimated
the amount of family members we have by like 30 people.  And they didn't get
sent out til the week of Christmas.  Isn't that horrible?!

{Inspiration Workshop} - Handmade Holidays

I am participating in Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop this week.  The topic for today is holiday secrets and tips.  My tip for making the holiday season extra fun and cozy is to make and buy handmade decorations for your home!

When I think about Christmas decorations, I think handmade.  Not only because I want to support other  handmade artists, but there is a unique charm to handmade Christmas decorations.  There are so many creative handmade items online and tutorials for helping anyone, of any craft level, create fun decorations for their home. This time of year I look forward to a little extra crafting and baking, especially when it involves friends.  I also love an excuse to go to the local fabric and craft stores...

Now that it's December 1 {wow!} I am feeling inspired and ready to start celebrating and decorating for Christmas. There is something about waiting for December and the cold weather that makes the Christmas season official for me.  Now that we had our first snow, it's mid 30s this week and now Dec. 1, let this wonderful time of year begin!

After spending way too much time on Pinterest and Etsy, I found a few handmade decorations that are adorable and have a little whimsy flair to them.

Are you feeling inspired and ready to decorate!?

Happy December
Merry Christmas

Weekend Recap - Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving at my parents house was wonderful.  We ate some really great home cooked dishes, played games, talked about scary suspense movies, looked through Black Friday ads, did some arts and crafts and ate an entire peanut butter pie that my brother's girlfriend brought for her first Thanksgiving with my family.  It was the most amazing pie I have ever tasted!

Here is a look into our Thanksgiving:

On Thanksgiving day, Miley greeted all our guests at the front door.  She likes to greet people by jumping on them and running around really excited.  It's her thing, and I am not sure I will ever be able to break her of it.

I helped my momma make Thanksgiving dinner.  Mashed potatoes, turkey, ham, corn, green beans, mac & cheese, rolls, green bean salad, gravy.... now I'm starving.

After dinner I made little foam turkey's with my nephews and aunt.
I love spending time with Lucas.  Especially when it's doing something arts and crafts!

One of the things I loved about Thanksgiving was listening to my 4 year old nephew tell me all the things he was Thankful for.  In addition to all of the family members he was thankful for, Lucas also said:
  • Daddy's job for giving us food
  • your camera to take pictures
  • the dogs
  • windows to look out in our house

Can you imaging not having any windows in your house?!  Or not having a job to provide food?  I am thankful for Lucas.  Looking at things through the eyes of a little kid is a good way to view things sometimes.

In addition to Thanksgiving at our parents houses, we went with the Sharkey family to cut down their Christmas trees, shopped Black Friday sales, saw Breaking Dawn {again}, ate more food, played with the pups, spoiled ourselves with late night milkshakes, watched football and basketball games, and ate more good food!

My dad put tears in my eyes when he said "I've really enjoyed having you guys here this long weekend.  It was nice to spend a lot of time with you."
I can't wait to see family again in four weeks for Christmas.
