Before and After: Fueling Your Creative Side

Yesterday Justin and I took the day off of work and had a day date together at The Richfield Art Studio for a pottery class.  We originally thought about going away for our anniversary weekend, but after our move we decided to stay local and find some fun things to do in our area.  This art class we took together - so much fun!

Our clay was really happy.  Sarah, our instructor, says happy clay will make the best bowls ;)

When I was in high school, I took every art class I could squeeze into my schedule, including a hand building ceramics class and in college I minored in art which also included a hand building/coil ceramics class.  Justin on the other hand has never worked with clay and never took more than the mandatory art credits in high school.  He was a true newbie but together we thought we could conquer the wheel.

This is what we discovered in our class:
  • wheel throwing is really fun
  • you become addicted quickly
  • it is challenging to shape your bowl evenly on the wheel
  • we want to do it again soon :)
I feel very blessed to be able to work from home and play with fabric and explore my creative side every day, but sometimes I need to get out of my comfort zone.  I want to use a medium I haven't used before. I want to fuel my creative side.  Creating the same thing day after day can cause your creative juices to run low.  Recently, I have had a lot of etsy orders which is fantastic {thanks LBF fans!!}, but I felt like I needed to do some new things this week.  The result, I took this pottery class with my hubs and made a few *new* girl onesies for my shop.  It is nice to keep things fresh!  If you are in a creative rut or feel like you need to find your motivation again for the craft you currently make, I suggest taking an art class that you have never done before.  You will come back feeling more creative and ready to dive back in to your own craft/artwork.   Fuel your creative side :)

I would definitely recommend taking one of Sarah's classes or scheduling a birthday party with her at the studio if you live in Northeast Ohio.  Of if you come to visit me we can take a class together ;)
Thank you so much Sarah!!  Have a great weekend friends!
