Currently: November Edition

Wearing:  This time of year makes me sooo excited to wear all of my scarves, knit wear and boots.  I've had my boots out for a while, but now that the temperatures have dropped I am able to bring back my daily head/hair accessories.  I love wearing hats, headbands and knit wraps, but tend to really only wear them fall-early spring.  If you see me around the next few months, there is a good chance I will be wearing leggings, a big cardigan, boots and a hair accessory of some kind.

Thinking about:  All the people on the east coast affected by hurricane Sandy.  It's so easy to stress over situations so minimal, and then something so devastating happens and puts everything back into perspective.  So easily we take things for granted, or at least I do.  Electricity, running water, a warm home, cell phone service...  This morning husband and I listened to NPR a little on a mini road trip and they were talking about all the damage to Staten Island.  It's so much worse than what I thought a few days ago.  Those on the east coast have been on my mind a lot lately.

Listening to:  I'm all over the place right now.  I have 22 pandora stations (embarrassing) and I have been rotating through about 10 of them the past month.

Anticipating:  Parties!  Birthday parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas parties, get-togethers with friends.  There seems to be a lot going on the next month and it makes me pretty excited.

Drinking:  Earl grey tea lattes.  I never had tea lattes before a couple weeks ago, and I am so hooked.  There is a local coffee shop in Dayton called Boston Stoker, and they recommended I try their Earl Grey Cream is what they call it.  Because I can't go out and get one everyday every time I crave one, I decided to start making them at home.  I purchased a handheld milk frother and everything.  There will be a post soon on how to make your own.  Stay tuned.

Eating:  Sushi.  There is a new(ish) sushi restaurant that a few guys around my age started in Cincinnati, OH called Fusian.  They expanded to Dayton, OH and are about to open a third location on OSU campus in Columbus, OH.  This is what I love about them...
1.)  Their restaurant is designed similar to Subway, Chipotle, Piada, etc.  You walk down the line choosing the ingredients you want in and on top of your roll.
2.)  You can get traditional seaweed wraps with raw seafood, or you can get soy wraps with untraditional meats like grilled tofu, chicken or even peanut butter and jelly.  Husband gets his own version of a spicy tuna roll while I get veggies (asparagus, cucumber, carrot, spinach and avacdo) with sweet chili sauce on top and sesame seeds.  Word is too that in November they carry roasted sweet potatoes.  I must go tomorrow.
3.)  Almost all the restaurant and packaging is from plant based compostable materials or is from recycled/recyclable materials.  Their compost then goes on to make nutrient rich soil.  Nice, huh?!

Wishing:  Fall lasted a little bit longer this year.  It has been so cold and rainy lately that it feels more like December around southwest Ohio.

Obsessing over:  LBF Studios coming together.  I now have my overhead light installed, my chalk wall painted, another little desk for additional table space and a rearranged floor plan.  I walk into my sewing room everyday and feel so happy.  Soon I will give you all a little virtual tour of LBF Studios!

Working on:  Making a lot of new inventory for the Christmas shopping season.  Did I just say Christmas?  I believe so.  I am a firm believer in celebrating holidays as they come, and not getting too ahead of the times.  I have a hard time getting excited for Christmas when this beautiful fall weather is here and we still have Halloween and Thanksgiving to think about.  However, I do have some really fun fabrics that will be turned into dog bow-ties, a new bow felt collar accessory and new kid shirts coming soon to my shop!  I will keep you posted.  Also, word is you can see a fabric sneak peek on my Facebook page today!

Thinking about:  How quickly time is going by.  I am a little bit of a sensitive soul, and an emotionally driven personality type.  Recently I have found myself often thinking about how quickly time goes by, how quickly little ones grow up and how you really have to make the most of every day.

Anticipating:  The month of October!  Ahh, I can't wait for all of the fun things I have planned this month!  I think October 1 should be a holiday because it is the best month of the year.

Listening to:  The new Mumford & Sons cd titled Babel.  My favorite M&S lyrics will always be, "In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die.  Where you invest your love, you invest your life."

Eating/Drinking:  One of my current favorite sandwiches is egg whites, provolone, tomato (with salt and pepper sprinkled on top) and avocado on nutty oat bread.  Although pumpkin spice lattes are a favorite of the season, one of husband's employees turned me on to a nonfat marble mocha macchiato.  It is delicious and not overpowered by the mocha, which I enjoy.

Wishing:  Stanlee and Miley didn't have allergy issues.  Stanlee starts his allergy injections today, and I feel so bad for his little anxious personality having to get shots every four-five days over the next month and a half.  Today I have to drop him off and he will stay at the vet all day to make sure he doesn't have a reaction to his first injection.
It's like dropping your kid off at school for the first time.
No?  A little too much?
Any pup mommas out there feel me?

Happy Monday.
Happy October.

Obsessing over…
Candles.  It has become a daily routine of mine to make a morning pot of coffee, turn on some tunes and light a candle or two.  My favorite scents are natural aromatherapy scents like lemon zest, spearmint, and lavender.  There is something very calming about the sight and scent of a candle, and I am loving it right now.
Working on…
Getting healthier.  I have let myself fall into bad habits and have consumed a disgusting amount of fried foods lately.  Dining out was becoming way too comfortable for us.  Today I started P90X again (I am hoping to make it past week 4 this time) and made better food choices.  With a fridge full of fruits and veggies, we are on the right track.
Thinking about…

The new American Apparel organic t-shirts I ordered today for my Etsy shop!  Between my husband and I, 3 out of 4 of our American Apparel shirts that we own are from their sustainable clothing line.  They are so soft, have a good weight to them, are made in the USA and the color options are lovely.  I started my inventory with natural color organic cotton tees and will work more colors into my inventory throughout the year.  I'm really excited to be making the switch to American Apparel!

Anticipating…
Warmer weather and playing outside.  Winter doesn't bother me that much, except for the lack of sunshine.  If I am prepared for the cold, I can deal with it.  It's the constant darkness and feeling cooped up inside that makes me a little, well... crazy.  I am ready to spend time outdoors, for one layer of clothing, taking less vitamin C, sunglasses, and letting my hair air dry without worrying I will catch a cold.  I am anticipating the month of May.
Listening to…
The Civil Wars, Bon Iver and a Priscilla Ahn Pandora station.  I love music, especially anything with a folk sound to it, a soft voice or awesome instrumentals.
Eating…
Dark chocolate covered salted caramels.  It's a little special desert we picked up on Sunday at a local market ;)  They are one of my favorite fine chocolates.  Wait, didn't I just say I am trying to get healthier?!  In my mind, this is healthier than doughnuts or pack of Oreos.  That could all be in my head though...
Wishing…
I could hop on a plane with my husband and spend a week somewhere warm and tropical just the two of us!
